Nurse Educator Option
Nurse Educators
There are approximately 3,500 nursing programs (practical nurse, associate degree, diploma, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral), within 2,500 schools of nursing. These schools enroll approximately 300,000 students; however, the supply is not keeping pace with the need for graduates. With the projected "shortfall" of nurses to meet the health care needs of our increasingly diverse and aging population, schools have increased their enrollments. Consequently, more nurse educators are needed to teach nursing students. Being a competent practitioner is not sufficient to being a nurse educator. The National League for Nursing stated the nurse educator needs core educator skills such as the ability to facilitate learning, advance the total development and professional socialization of the learner, design appropriate learning experiences, and evaluate learning outcomes.
What is the Educator Option?
The educator option is a three-course option that prepares students with knowledge and skills in teaching, curriculum development and program evaluation.
